What is Betting and Wagers?

There are many different types of wagers.  The most common types are outlined below.  Further details on other types of wagers can be accessed in our Betting Rules (link).

Money Line

A wager on the winner of an event, including overtime.  For example, you can wager $100 on Team A to win the game. If Team A wins in regular or overtime, your bet is a winner.

Match Result (also known as Win/Draw/Win)

A wager on the winner of an event, excluding overtime, or for the event to be a draw. For example, you can wager $100 on Team A to win the game. If Team A wins in regular time (90 minutes for Soccer, 60 minutes for Hockey), your bet is a winner. You can also bet on the draw outcome. For example, you can wager $100 on the event ending in a draw. It the final result is a draw, your bet is a winner.

Spread (also known as a handicap Bet)

You can wager on the amount of point difference in the final result.  The spread line is set according to the bookmaker’s expectation of the point difference in the final result.  For instance, in a matchup of Team A vs. Team B, a spread line of +4 on Team A indicates that the bookmaker expects Team A to lose by approximately 4 points.  There are different spreads available for wagering.  For example, if you wager on Team A with a +4 spread, your Bet will be a winner if Team A wins the game or loses by less than 4 points.  If Team A loses by 4 points exactly, your stake will be returned to you.  In the above example, if you wager on Team B, your Bet will be a winner if Team B wins the game by more than 4 points.  If Team B wins by 4 points exactly, your stake will be returned to you.

Totals (also known as Over/Under)

A wager on the total points scored in the game.  The bookmaker will set the total line according to its expectations.  For example, in a matchup of Team A vs. Team B with a total line of 150 points means that the bookmaker expects there to be approximately 150 points total scored in the game.  If you wager on Over, the total number of points has to exceed 150 for you to win.  If you wager on Under, the total number of points has to be lower than 150 for you to win.  If the total number of points is 150 exactly, your wager will be returned to you.

Proposition Bets (also known as Props)

Wager placed on whether a certain event occurs, regardless of the outcome of the game.  For example, you can wager on a player to score the first touchdown in a game.  For your bet to be a winner, that individual has to score the first touchdown, even if the team that player plays for subsequently loses the game.

Parlay (also known as an Accumulator)
A combination of multiple legs (or selections) into a single wager.    For example, in a four leg parlay on basketball, you can wager on the outcome of four different matchups.  You would win only all legs of the parlay are winners. The odds are calculated by multiplying the decimal odds (as explained above) of each selection.  You cannot add selections that are related in a single parlay.  For example, if one of the matchups in the parlay is Team A vs. Team B, you can only wager on one of those teams to win in that parlay.

Futures (also known as Outright Winner)

A Futures bet is a wager placed on a whole competition or tournament or instead of a single game. Before the competition or tournament starts, the odds reflect the form of each competitor relative to the other competitors. During the course of the competition or tournament, the odds may change to reflect each competitor’s performance. For example, bets placed on the Super Bowl in a given season, or the men's singles winner of the US Open tennis tournament.
